My time at Nave Tao was and continues to be insightful and transformative. I’m sharing my experience as a licensed psychotherapist and someone that has done a lot of work on himself. I have been a therapist and also received therapy for many years. I’ve also attended and facilitated many retreats. What makes my art residency with Xolox unique is three things.

1. Xolox as a facilitator. Xolox brings in a powerful presence where you feel supported and nurtured through his creative power while you are in residency. I felt Xolox was lending me his creative experience, while I found and reconnected with my own creative power. Xolox himself was also attentive to my experience beyond art.

2. The land and space. The space where I was in residency was helpful. I felt peace and a tranquility to be able to focus and give more attention to my process and thoughts. The space was conducive for self-reflection and learning. The details of the accommodations were wonderful. You can see the level of care and thought put into the experience. You’re not going to support a business, you’re going to support a caring human with a talent to upgrade your innate creative forces.

3. Process. Xolox’s creative process was helpful in navigating the unfolding that turned out to be a surprise to me. When I was younger, I was deeply creative. Art was always pouring out of me. With many years of linear thinking and scientific work, creativity was bred out of me. Going through Xolox’s creative process helped me remember how creative I am when using his process in reconnecting with one’s emotions and techniques with color. It was extremely helpful that he was there supporting this process. It’s truly a therapy through art. I loved my experience and would absolutely recommend the magic of this place if anyone is feeling stuck, lost, or insecure about their ability to create. It inspired me to open my artistic channels once more. Thank you Xolox!

Toda mi vida pensé que se necesitaba nacer con un don para ser artista. Durante años quise pintar, pero un bloqueo mental por las inseguridades del deber ser, en vez de ser, me impedían dar el primer paso, uno tan sencillo, como el de ir por un par de pinturas, un lienzo y unos pinceles. Hoy pienso que un verdadero artista es el que logre manifestar lo que lleva dentro, sin importar tanto las técnicas o el perfeccionismo, ni lo que piensen los demás. Ese que te conecta con tu alma, ese que cuando lo miras, te puede hacer llorar de alegría. Durante tres días, disfruté mucho de la experiencia en la nave TAO, en compañía de su comandante Xolox, antes de despegar, pasé por un scanning sobre mi ser y un mapeo mental, que me permitió elegir los colores adecuados para poder navegar a gusto en ese infinito limbo blanco. Durante el viaje hubo algunas turbulencias, pero gracias a la meditación diaria evite casi todos los meteoritos de la duda, el playlist de la música acompaña muy bien, la comida es deliciosa y los cuartos super cómodos, esenciales para un reparador descanso cuando mi mente entraba en loop y se perdía en el espacio y el tiempo. En una etapa del viaje navegue por las profundidades de mis miedos, mis frustraciones, mis inseguridades, hasta que pude salir a la superficie, respirar y volver a conectar con mi niño interior, ese que se divertía jugando en vez de juzgando, como decía Pablo Picasso: ¨todos los niños nacen artistas, el problema es cómo seguir siendo artistas al crecer ¨ Gracias Nave TAO ( Art Therapy Organization ) y Jozhue Xolox su creador, por guiarme y empoderarme a vencer mis límites mentales para crear mi primer cuadro y así comprender que nunca es tarde para emprender el viaje que elijamos en esta vida.

“I came to do an 8 day art residency with my 2 year old daughter. I had been a face and body painter for about 10 years, but I had never painted a canvas other than skin. I was very scared at first. What was I going to create, how was I going to do it? But Xolox helped me realize you can just play until you like it. If you don’t like it at anypoint, you can cover it and keep trying until you feel in your soul that it is done. When I poured the initial colors on the painting, I looked at it for a few days before finally going into the zone. When I did, I was taken away by the process of abstract art. The process of creating. When I was done, I starred at a pink, purple, gold and silver galaxy with planets and movement and stars that still blows me away. Thank you Xolox for helping me find my flow as a abstract artist and for helping me find the courage to finally paint a canvas, AND the week was so much more than that-Thank you!”
